1. ARNIS
1.1. DEFINITION:
It was co-founded by Remegio "Remy" Amador Preasas and his brother Ernesto Presas, they were aiming for a training method that can cause fewer injuries but still be counted as self-defense Arnis is a national sport and martial art in the Philippines It is Individual/dual that uses single stick/pair of sticks
It is called Arnis demane during the Pre-Spanish periode, Gilas in Luzon, Kali, Baston, and Escrima in Visayas, Kuntao
1.2. WHAT TO DO:
1.2.1. READY STANCE
- STAND WITH YOUR FEET APART PARALLEL TO THE SHOULDER WITH BOTH TOES POINTING FORWARD
- THE KNEES SHOULD BE STRAIGHT
1.2.2. ATTENTION STANCE
- HEALS CLOSE TO EACH OTHER
- SHOULDERS ARE DROOPED WITH BOTH HANDS ON THE SIDES
- USED IN PREPARATION FOR COURTESY/BOWING BEFORE AND AFTER SPARRING
1.2.3. FORWARD STANCE
- STEP ONE FOOT FORWARD TO LUNGE POSITION BRINGING THE BODY NOT TOO LOW NOR TOO EXTENDED
- COMMONLY USED FOR FRONTAL STRIKING OR BLOCKING TECHNIQUES
1.2.4. OBLIQUE STANCE
- STARTING WITH THE READY STANCE, STEP ONE FOOT DIAGONALLY FORWARD
- BOTH TOES POINTING IN FRONT
- COMMONLY USED FOR FORWARD BLOCKING AND EVASION TECHNIQUES
1.2.5. STRADDLE STANCE
- FROM THE READY STANCE, STEP ONE FOOT EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT WITH KNEES SLIGHTLY BENT
- KNOWN AS THE "HORSEBACK RIDING" STANCE
- COMMONLY USED FOR BLOCKING THE STRIKES INTENDED FOR THE SIDE OF THE BODY

- STARTING WITH THE READY STANCE, SLIDE EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT FOOT TO THE SIDE
- SLIDE STANCES ARE COMMONLY USED FOR STRIKE DEFLECTION AND EVASION TECHNIQUES

- HOLDING THE STICK WITH THE DOMINANT HAND, USE FOREHAND STIKE TO THE LEFT TEMPLE
1.3.2. RIGHT TEMPLE STRIKE
- USE BACKHAND STRIKE TO THE RIGHT TEMPLE
1.3.3. RIGHT SHOULDER STRIKE
- USE FORHAND STIKRE TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER
1.3.4. LEFT SHOULDER STRIKE
- USE BACKHAND STRIKE TO THE LEFT SHOULDER

- EXCEUTE A STRAIGHT STAB OR THRUST TO THE STOMACH

- DO AN OVERHAND STAB OR THRUST TO THE RIGHT CHEST

- DO AN UNDERHAND STAB TO THE LEFT CHEST

- USE A BACKHAND STRIKE TO THE RIGHT KNEE

1.4. BLOCKING TECHNIQUES
1.4.1. OUTSIDE BLOCK
- USING THE DOMINANT HAND, BRING THE CANE VERTICALLY TO THE FRONT, SUPPORTED BY THE NONDOMINANT HAND
1.4.2. INSIDE BLOCK
- PERFORM OUSIDE HAND ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BODYY
1.4.3. DOWNWARD INSIDE BLOCK
- HOLD THE CANE ABOVE THE RIGHT SHOULDER BEFORE SWINGING IT DOWNWARD TO COUNTER THE OPPONENT'S ATTACK
1.4.4. DOWNWARD OUTSIDE BLOCK
- POSITION THE CANE BEHIND THE LEFT EAR BEFORE SWINGING IT DOWNWARD TO COUNTER THE OPPONENT'S STRIKE
1.4.5. RISING BLOCK
- RAISE THE CANE OVER THE HEAD TO BLOCK THE OPPONENT'S BLOW
1.4.6. VERTICAL BLOCK
- THIS IS DONE BY LIFTING THE ELBOW, HIDING THE CANE TO SHOULDER LEVEL WHILE THE OTHER HAND SUPPORTS IT AT THE MIDDLE.
1.5. SINAWALI TECHNIQUES
Sinawali is a term referred to the weaving activity being applied to Eskrima (Arnis) It practices the two weapon block and response method called "Doblete"
1.5.1. SINGLE SINAWALI TECHNIQUE
- PLACING THE CANES ON THE SHOULDER, SWING ONE OF THE CANES TO STRIKE THE OPPONENT'S RIGHT TEMPLE
- WITHDRAW THE CANE ABRUPTLY, PASSING TO THE LEFT SHOULDER AND SWING IT DOWN TO STRIKE THE OPPONENT'S KNEE
- WITHDRAW THE CANE AND PLACE IT ABOVER THE SHOULDER
- REPEAT THE WHOLE PROCESS STARTING WITH THE OTHER CANE
1.5.2. DOUBLE SINAWALI TECHNIQUE
- BEGIN WITH THE RIGHT HAND UP, WHILE THE LEFT HAND IS TUCKED UNDER THE RIGHT SHOULDER
- STRIKE THE OPPONENT'S TEMPLE WITH THE RIGHT HAND
- AS YOU RETRACT THE RIGHT HAND TO THE LEFT SHOULDER, STRIKE THE OPPONENT'S KNEE WITH THE LEFT HAND
- AS YOU STRIKE A BACKHAND TO THE OPPONENT'S TEMPLE WITH THE RIGHT HAND, RETRACT THE LEFT HAND TO THE LEFT SHOULDER
